Matemwe Bandas is a luxury, eco-chic, boutique hotel located on the unspoilt North-Eastern coast of the island of Zanzibar. Set on a spectacular white sand beach that leads to a shallow lagoon with clear, turquoise waters and coral reefs, our Matemwe hotel is the perfect choice if you are looking for a tropical paradise away from it all. You can walk along the majestic palmed-lined beach for miles in both directions, only occasionally coming across other people.

Matemwe Bandas Hotel is as faithful to its natural surroundings and to the highest levels of luxury as we are to the millennia of old traditions of local master craftsmanship. We are also a fair trade business that is substantially locally owned, while every member of our team (including our four young apprentices) hails from the village of Matemwe around our property.

We are proud of our reputation of providing the highest levels of personal service, and if you have any special requirements, we’ll do our utmost to cater to them.

    matemwe bungalows

Our all-natural beach bandas (Kiswahili for bungalow) are exceptionally spacious and have their own veranda uniquely perched right on Matemwe’s stunning beach. Built on stilts and a platform using only the ancient building materials of palm frond and coco wood, they offer a luxury experience on the island of Zanzibar.

    matemwe restaurant

Our restaurant & bar are  locally thatched and all-wooden ‘makuti’ buildings,  and are bordered with fine white sand. Meals are prepared by our chefs, and we are happy to cater to any special dietary requirements. If you prefer, you can enjoy your meals and drinks on your veranda or enjoy a candle-lit dinner on the beach.

    pool hotel zanzibar

We have a large 10m by 5m swimming pool for those who prefer to cool off with fresh water dips. Steps slope down on one side for safety, and the pool is maintained to a very high standard. Large hammocks – big enough for two –  hang from the garden trees for chilling by the pool, and there are also sun loungers and umbrellas available.

And though hundreds of higher-education-related bills have been filed over the past year, only a fraction of them deal with issues that directly affect aspects of readiness and college access of most concern to the k-12 community
