Our all natural, thatched beach bandas (Kiswahili for bungalow) are exceptionally spacious (50m2) with their own veranda uniquely perched right on Matemwe’s stunning beach. Built on stilts and a platform using only the ancient building materials of palm frond and coco wood, our beach bandas afford a truly exceptional luxury experience on the island of Zanzibar.

In addition to your four-poster double bed, tailored mosquito netting has also been tightly fastened between your free standing makuti walls and thatched roof. The prevailing sea breeze, highly traditional design and platted palm leaf walls yield excellent natural air conditioning.

Beach Bungalows

Depending on which banda you choose, your shower could even be a palm or fir tree rising through the floor and out again through the thatched ‘makuti’ roof. The furniture is of exceptionally well finished, locally made coco wood and includes four safari chairs with tables in each banda so that you can chill in considerable style and comfort as you gaze out dreamily on to Matemwe’s turquoise lagoon.

Poolside Bandas

Our largest coco wood & makuti banda has two floors and nestles next to our white Portland cement swimming pool only meters from the beach. The largest room in the property (6m x 7m; suite total 55m2) is on the first floor with a private veranda offering commanding pool and sea views and en suite shower & washroom downstairs. Our junior pool suite is situated on the ground floor, offering the option of combining both suites to make an ideal family house for residents with children.
